Buck Sirus knives: Cooly Collectible
Jan 15, 2012
This ain't the best EDC knife. It's a bit on the heavy side at 3.9 oz, has slick scale, a intrusive cam lock on the spine, and has only moderate deployment speed. For these reasons I classify this knife more of an EDC option not a tactical knife. Buck could improve this series by lightening the scales, putting in a stronger assist spring, reducing the prices (at $55 it's pricey I think for 420HC steel... a good but not great steel I think) and minimizing the cam lock. However it's in the looks department where the Buck Sirus shines. It comes in some striking and original colorations that can add a lot of coolness to your collection. So while its lackluster features might fail to impress, its looks won't. Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 8 of 10 (collectibility enjoyment considered)
Damascus Trapper Pocket Knife

No Longer Available 2 Blade TRAPPER Damascus Folding Pocket Knife Damascus steel is hot-forged steel used in Eastern swordmaking from about 900 AD. Damascus knives are of legendary sharpness and strength. Damascus steel is an alloy that is hard yet brittle at one extreme by adding up to 2% carbon, or a higher level of toughness yet ductile and malleable at the other, with about 0.5% carbon. The resulting steel strikes the perfect balance between hard and tough. The Chinese have been making Damascus steel for thousands of years same as the Japanese. The quality of Pakistani knives has improved greatly over the past ten years but is still not close to the quality of knives made in Japan or China. The difference is those thousands of years of experience! The Pakistani's got into knife making as a strictly commercial venture where-as the Japanese and Chinese make them commercially but with great pride. Yes, there are factories that just produce knives for as little expense as possible and are just looking for profit. For the most part China and Japan have pride in their work from the corporate level down to the personal level. --Expert Metalworker · High Quality Cutlery · Handles are Jigged Bone · Polished 2.75" 440 Stainless Steel Blades- A high carbon stainless steel offers a good balance of edge retention, easy re-sharpening and corrosion resistance. · Polished Brass Pins, Liners and Bolsters · Knife is 3 1/2" Closed, 6 1/4" Open · Country of Origin- China

Buck Paradigm: "Looks Can Kill" by Nutnfancy
Jan 24, 2012
Polished blue/black G10 handles make the Buck Paradigm 337 a class act. With its lack of traction and multi-step deployment, this is probably not the best tactical blade. But its good looks, high quality, US manufacture, and fun action makes excel as a collectible or utility carry blade. In the Paradigm you will find the unique bolster activated "Shift Mechanism" and lock with assisted opening. Rotate the bolster ccw and flip the tang to get the blade out. Once practiced, it is fast. I just wouldn't want to do it under stress. Those heavy duty stainless bolsters (stippled from casting) and the lack of any milling in the liners makes the knife heavy: 5.0 oz. For me that's too stout as an EDC blade and I will usually opt for a smaller blade in that role anyhow. But this handsome blade with its premium S30V blade steel and Paul Bos heat treat is a serious cutter, proven in some hard core cardboard tests I conducted. The drop point blade, arriving sharp out of box, showed good wear and toughness in these cutting AND stabbing tests (and blade tip shows excellent strength). The hollow ground S30V blade did not however provide miraculous edge holding capabilities as some indicate that the steel possesses. Re-sharpening came easy enough and the fine grained S30V steel shows a WICKED edge now (shown). It remains an excellent steel that shows Lockup is excellent out of box; some looseing occurred after cardboard stabbing tests but tightened back up with adjustment. Durability of ...

Victorinox Cadet: "Pocket Perfection" by Nutnfancy
Jan 26, 2012
One of the best pocket knives in the world, the tiny Cadet is a frequent companion on all my adventuring and daily tasks. It is rugged, THIN, and lightweight. At one time it came in all the cool colors shown and each is a favorite. Tools are basic: large blade, small and large flat blade driver, nail file, can opener, cap lifter, and lanyard ring. You might miss the tweezers and toothpick in this mode that features Alox aluminum scales. Value is extremely high as in most Victorinox products. I recommend using Amazon.com for purchasing. It is good looking, extremely serviceable, and actually collectible too (discussed!). It is with me wherever I go. //////////////// Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 10 out of 10
Kershaw Macho 2120 Rare Folding Lock-back Pocket Knife
Jul 04, 2011
This is the Kersaw Macho. This knife was made between 1974 and 1989. It's used and been re-sharpened but it's in beautiful shape. An innovative design for the 70's and 80's; a precursor to many future working knives to come. I've shared what I know about this knife. If anybody has anything to add, please, do so in a comment. Thanks UPDATE July 3- I found out that this particular knife is one of the earlier models, first of three versions. This version (the first) has a straight bolster and the handle scales are pinned to the frame. The second has a diagonal bolster with the handles pinned the the frame. Lastly, diagonal bolsters and glued handles. I can see where if you had it scrimshawed the pins might get in the way of the design. Otherwise, I wouldn't want it glued at all.

Camillus Blaze: Not So Great EDC
Dec 03, 2011
Contrary to probably everyone else, I am not a big fan of the Blaze knife for EDC. As set forth in the video, it has several quirks that do not stack up well against the competition and make it uncomfortable to carry. But with that said, having been true to my truth mission in my reviews, it is still sad to see the great company of Camillus gone from the knife world and hope they resurect with even better designs. But for now the company is gone and that makes this and other Camillus designs collectible. On the good side, the Blaze does have a well designed blade from good steel which might engender it with some for EDC.
